Credit memo

Credit memo automation from reviewed financial spreads

The numbers an analyst reviewed and a second person approved become the memo — in DOCX for editing and PDF for the file, with the evidence pages and the audit trail attached.

What the generated memo contains

Each section is switchable per client template. The memo is a working paper for the credit analyst, not a substitute for the credit assessment.

SectionContent
Rating and driversThe indicative metrics-implied rating with the four ratios behind it and the overlays applied.
Balance-sheet spreadThe standardized balance sheet with derived totals — total assets, equity, liabilities and the balance identity.
P&L waterfallRevenue to net income, each rung with its displayed terms, the sum, and a verdict on whether the walk-down foots.
Ratios and seriesLeverage, coverage, margin and liquidity ratios, with the multi-year series where earlier years exist for the issuer.
Peer comparisonOptional: the issuer against a chosen peer set on the same normalized basis.
EvidencePage images of the statements used, with recognition confidence where a page was read by OCR.
Quality checksThe document's quality signals as shown in the view — balance identity, reconciliation, provenance.
Notes / off-balanceDebt maturity ladder, lease schedule, undrawn facilities and the derived covenant fields, when note pages were given.
Analyst notes and trailThe analyst's own notes, every manual override, and the review and approval history.

Copied from the reviewed view, never recomputed

The memo is generated from the figures displayed in the document view at that moment — the ones the analyst corrected and the reviewer approved. Nothing is re-derived on the way into the document, so the memo cannot disagree with the screen, the API or the data warehouse. The DOCX and the PDF print identical strings.

Every generated memo is stored with the document and listed for download, so the version that went into a credit file can be retrieved later. A standard disclaimer states the source of the figures and that rows read by OCR must be verified against the page.

Where the memo section is "Notes / off-balance": since release 1.4.67 the borrowings and lease notes can be read into covenant fields — see notes and off-balance-sheet data.

Your institution's memo, not ours

Branding

Client name, logo, primary colour and font come from a template file; a client-specific file overrides the default, section by section.

Section toggles

Each of the nine sections can be switched on or off per template, so a monitoring memo and an origination memo can differ without any code change.

Number format

Decimals, thousands separator and negative style (parentheses or minus) follow the template, matching the institution's house style.

Where it sits in the workflow

  1. Extraction. The annual report — PDF, scan or ESEF filing — becomes a standardized spread with quality signals. See how the statements are extracted.
  2. Review. The analyst checks the flags, corrects where needed, adds notes and submits. A different person approves; the approved figures are snapshotted.
  3. Memo. One click on the document view generates the DOCX and PDF from the approved figures. The same call is available on the API for workflow engines.
  4. Downstream. The memo, the structured JSON and the approval state travel to the credit file, the decisioning system or the data warehouse — one version of the truth.

Common questions about the memo

Can the memo be edited?

The DOCX is a normal Word document and can be edited after generation. The generated version is stored unchanged with the document, so the original remains on record.

Does the memo write the credit recommendation?

No. It assembles the reviewed financials, ratios, indicative rating, evidence and trail. The analysis and the recommendation remain the analyst's; the memo is the working paper underneath them.

What if the extraction has open quality flags?

They are printed in the quality-checks section exactly as shown in the view. The memo never hides a reconciliation gap — the walk-down verdict says whether the P&L foots.
